嘉慶16年(1811)鹿港海防同知薛志亮捐俸倡建文祠、武廟,由士紳陳士陶負責文昌祠,蘇雲從負責武廟的興建。文祠曾歷經嘉慶、同治、光緒重修,民國64年文祠遭回祿之災,建築物受損,民國74年依原貌重修。
文祠為二進一院的建築,前方有一座水池,稱為泮池。文祠主祀文昌帝君,同祀倉頡先師、魁星爺。武廟主祀關聖帝君,配祀關平、周倉。

The establishment of Wenchang Shrine and Martial Temple were subscribed by the director of the Lukang Coast Guard Office, Xue Zhi-liang. The gentry Chen Shi-tao took the responsibility of establishing Wenchang Shrine, and Su Yun was responsible for Martial Temple during the Jia-qing era of the Qing Dynasty (1811). Wenchang Shrine was restored four times during the period of the Qing Dynasty. In 1975, Wenchang Shrine was ruined in a fire. By 1985 it was restored to the present scale.
The architecture of Wenchang Shrine is characterized by a sequence of two principal buildings with two entrances and one inner courtyard. There is a pond, named “Pan Chi” in front of the main entrance. Wenchang Shrine is primarily dedicated to the god of scholarship, Wenchang, but also dedicated to the creator of Chinese characters, Cang Jie and the god of literature, Kui Xing. Martial Temple is dedicated to Saintly Emperor Guan, as well as his subordinates, Guan Ping and Zhou Cang.
