◆ Background
　Lukang is located at 24° 4‘ N and the mean temperature of the year is 22.9°C. In the summer, the average temperature goes up to 29° with thunder rains; whereas in the winter, there is cold and dry wind with sands called “九降風”. Therefore, as Lukang is an important commercial town, residents should solve the problem or it may lead to a negative effect on the commercial activities. There are three main solutions to deal with the problem, 1) to extend the eaves 2) to scaffold a canopy and 3) build a pavilion. Due to the structure of Eastern traditional building and avoid to make the store become rough, most of the stores choose the third method to solve the problem.
　Wu-Fu street is developed in a later period for adapting the weather in Taiwan. The main function of this street is to trade for wholesalers. The shopping street’s good atmosphere and comfort can help the trade more likely to be successful. The cooperation to build pavilions on both sides is the reason for the “No Heaven Street (不見天街)”.
◆ Physical Control
　Though this street is made for avoiding the sunshine and providing a shelter from rain, this shopping street should strengthen ventilating, lighting and drainage functions to build a comfortable environment.
　The drainage is completed by lifting the top of the pavilion higher than the shop’s roof for water to drain from the roof to the gutter and the rainspout.
The ventilating and lighting functions are solved by keeping a gap between pavilions and the roof and erecting a skylight.
◆ Structure
　The main structure of the street is that there is one pillar on each wall. Most of the coverage on the top of the pavilions are slanting and spread with bamboo leafs and then cover a layer of soil. The slope of roof on the street is about 1:3.
